The Ideal Height for Toilet Paper Holders, and Other Must Have Bathroom Measurements.

When renovating a bathroom there are myriads of accessories, when placed correctly will ensure the best possible use of your hardware. You don’t want to complete your project, only to notice that your towel bar is placed too high or your toilet paper holder is positioned at an awkward angle.

Read on for the perfect height for toilet paper holders and other important bathroom measurements.

Toilet Paper Holder Height:

It is recommended that the height for a toilet paper holder is at 26” on center from the floor. Additionally, if the holder is being installed on a wall perpendicular to the toilet, it should be installed 8” - 12” from the front of the rim of the toilet seat.

If retrofitting a bathroom, the primary user should physically test the position to see what is most comfortable for their personal usage.

Towel Bar Height:

As with all measurements, there is an ideal measurement, and then a practical measurement based on your personal application. The standard height for a bathroom towel bar is 48” from the floor to the center of the bar.

However changes to this dimension can be made by taking into account if this will be used for a kids bathroom and how the room is laid out. Ensure there is enough space between any light switches, outlets or additional accessories.

Towel Ring Height:

You don’t want clean towels to drag along wet bathroom vanities. Ensure your towel ring is installed at 20” above the vanity countertop. This is measuring from the  vanity to the bottom of your ring.

Towel Hook Height:

A bathroom hook is great for handing towels in tighter spots, or doors and can double as a robe hook as well. Recommended height will vary depending on the location, but it is recommended to be positioned between 55” - 70” above the floor. I personally recommend 68” as happy medium.

ADA Shower Grab Bar Height:

If you are aiming to create an ADA Compliant (Handicap) shower check with your local codes to ensure all hardware is positioned correctly.

For a walk in shower the shower grab bar should be installed at 33” - 36” off the ground. If being installed at an angle, aim for a 45° angle.
