What are Electromagnetic Locks?

As more and more of the world moves towards digital and electrizing means of communication. So too has door hardware moved in that direction. Mainly allowing doors to be opened/closed, locked/unlocked via electronic keypads, apps on phones and more.

Most standard deadbolt locks can now be locked or unlocked via an electronic keypad or remotely using wifi. Electromagnetic locks use the power of magnets to lock and unlock a door as follows.

The ways these Maglock's work is by sending an electrical current thru the magnet, (hence the name electromagnetic).. An Armature Plate meets the magnet causing a powerful grip on the door anywhere from 800-2,000 pounds of force. When the electric power is cut, usually via a card, keypad or automatic means (EG a fire alarm) the magnet is deflated and deenergized and there is no longer anything holding the door locked.

A key advantage of Maglocks is the absence of any moveable parts (As in a cylinder of a standard door lock).
