Activation:
- Method 1: Soak the HydroSack® in a bucket or tub for 2-3 minutes
- Method 2: Spray the HydroSack® with a hose or pour water of it (this will take slightly longer than soaking)
Usage:
It is recommended that the HydroSack® be activated before laying down, do not rely on flood waters to activate the HydroSack® due to:
- The HydroSack® weights very little before usage and can float away
- If activated by flood water, the HydroSack® can be dangerous to dispose of, since the water may be contaminated
- If stacking HydroSack® bags, they may not swell to their full capacity.
Re-using the HydroSack®: The HydroSack® is a single use flood barrier. Once inflated it can last up to 3 - 6 months. After this time it will require disposal.
Disposal: To dispose of the HydroSack®, split the outer layer and the contents can be poured into the ground. It will degrade within weeks. Ecological studies have shown that the contents pose no negative risks to the environment.
Contents: What is in the HydroSack®? It contains a mixture of Super Absorbent Polymer (SAP) and FSC (sustainably sourced) wood pulp. SAP is a compound used in disposable diapers and other super absorbent products. The SAP used in HydroSack®s was specifically chosen for its eco-friendly nature, as there are other super absorbent compounds (and therefore other products utilizing them in the market) that can be harmful to the environment, and are even banned in some countries.
