This Pemko #430 Heavy duty automatic door bottoms has a drop-down seal which is lowered when the door is closed to prevent air, light, sound, fire, smoke, dust and moisture from infiltrating the gap under doors. It can be surface mounted to the door or semi-mortised into the bottom of the door. Fitted with either a PemkoPrene or EPDM seal. The seal drops to fill gaps up to .75".

EPDM vs. PemkoPrene: When choosing a seal it is essential to determine the purpose for sealing and the floor surface beneath the seal.

EPDM is comparable to Neoprene, though it is more Eco Friendly and has better performance in many areas. Specifically, it has great sound control properties and is solvent resistant. PemkoPrene has a multi-point compression design which works great on uneven surfaces such as a tiled floor or carpet.
PemkoPrene is not a firm seal which allows for more leniencies. Both types of seals remain effective in a wide range of temperatures and can be used on external doors.

Installation: Installation instructions, end plates and screws provided. Screws are colored to coordinate with casing.

Mounting: This automatic door bottom can be surface mounted or semi-mortised to the face of the door. Select from drop-down menu above which mounting option will be applied.

How It Works

The high quality automatic mechanism consists of an aluminum case which surrounds a moveable drop-bar seal. The drop-bar seal is actuated by a plunger which contacts the door jamb as the door is closing, forcing the drop-bar seal down against the floor / threshold. The plunger requires low "Feather Touch" closing force to actuate the drop-bar seal. The plunger causes the seal to always actuate on the hinge side first, which prevents the seal from skidding along the floor/threshold while the door is being closed. Door hang-up will not occur!
